#Will of Steel is an endeavour by JSW to honour the unsung heroes of India, people who have truly proven their mettle and have unbreakable determination. Be it in sports, health care, social service or even saving the environment. These are individuals whose willpower has changed the world.
Here’s a brief of his story that will help all my dear friends reading this article understand why I am nominating him for the JSW #Will of Steel initiative.
Laxman Rao is one of the rare personalities we would come across. A tea seller by day and a student and author by night, Rao came a long tough way. Roa, a 8th class dropout left home at the age of 18 in search of work. He worked hard to pursue his dreams and today he has written and published 24 books in Hindi. He is also a graduate in B.A. and currently pursuing M.A. in Hindi literature with his son doing M.Com in the same institution.
This 63 year old who has been selling tea in ITO in New Delhi is truely an inspiration and motivation to many. His will power and dedication to take forward his work and dreams on parallel grounds is not something many would find determination to do. In 1979, he published his first book, ‘New stories for a new world’ later which Times of India carried an article on his life titled, ‘Rolling paans and writing books’.
He was also invited by the late Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi after he started occupying headlines in newspapers. Former President of India, Pratibha Patil, by his man that she invited him over to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan. His book, Ramdas, which has also been adapted into a play, has sold over 3,000 copies.
However, Even after authoring 24 books, Rao still sells tea by roadside daily to support his family as the income from the books does not help in meeting the two ends.

I was truly inspired by his dedication and love for writing. At this stage of being an amateur in this field, being able to feel his passion was really an amazing experience for me. Unknowingly, he has created that spirit, ignited the flame of positivity and inspired me to write more, learn more and be a better person everyday than I was the day before. And, when I think that in a similar way, he must have inspired many such youngsters like me, I feel blessed having come across his story. Indeed, he has that #Will of Steel, without which accomplishing such great honour and still being intact to roots is really unthinkable and unimaginable in today’s world. Undoubtedly, he has that #Will of Steel.
